Water Exercise 

The YMCA of the Capital Area has large, heated indoor & outdoor pools so you can enjoy the benefits of water exercise year-round. Water exercise is for everyone regardless of age, ability or fitness level. The majority of our certified instructor led classes are held in the shallow end of the pool and do not require you to know how to swim. The health benefits of water exercise include increased range of motion, cardiovascular fitness and improved muscle tone. Water exercise classes are designed to protect joints from excess strain, increase flexibility, balance, coordination, strength and endurance.

Additional benefits

Water provides a natural resistance to motion, the buoyancy reduces stress on joints and the risk of injury, and the warmth of the water helps to sooth arthritic and muscle soreness while you exercise. Water exercise improves mental health and promotes healing of injured tissue by increasing the circulation of oxygenated blood to the brain and vital organs.  Water exercise is also great at easing muscle spasms by relaxing tight muscles.   

All aerobics classes are free and unlimited to Y members.
